PLACE

Come to PLACE! We are a gallery space on the third floor of the Pioneer Place Mall (Atrium Bldg) in downtown Portland, OR. Place is a process-based installation gallery. We invite artists to take over parts of the gallery to workshop an idea, similar to a residency. The only real requirement of the artist during their tenure is that they are happy with their project. If someone is not satisfied then the expectation is that they continue to workshop it. Sometimes workshopping an idea means there is no physical change to the installation, what we want is for our artists to continually consider the work knowing they could change it if they would like to. It’s also possible that at the end of an exhibition with Place the project was never fully completed, but they would have had a chance to physically live with the project, which will assist in their next endeavor whatever it might be. Weird Fiction is an interdisciplinary arts group operating on the innards of the technocultural imagination. Based in Portland, OR, regionally and intergalactically, Weird Fiction has produced speculative fiction blogs, multimedia performance, videos, interactive installations and book works since their inception in early 2009. Exploring the possibility spaces between fact and fiction, hype and horror, residual media and networked technologies; Weird Fiction explore the outer regions and ramifications of today’s pervasive information environments.
